In a letter to her older sister Adria, Gemma wrote:

Even when I was a sincere believer, the concept of an anthropomorphized Creator eluded me. And it still does. Yet, when I am in the presence of certain people, I cannot help but wonder at the possibility of a benevolent, all-loving God.
