Einstein (link to Stock-Hagen) & Bose
The existence of this new state of matter was first predicted mathematically in 1924–1925 by Indian physicist Satyendra Nath Bose and Albert Einstein. However, the technology required to reach the fractions of a billionth of a degree above absolute zero didn't exist yet.
What I find so fascinating about such theoretical discoveries, is not just the brilliance of the discoverers, but their equations are often smarter than the discoverers themselves. Einstein’s equation predicted the existence of blackholes, which he didn’t believe. From Einstein to Schrodinger to Mendeleev, many such examples abound in the scientific field. Creating work that supersedes, perhaps AI is that.
Brian Greene
I read all the books by Brian Greene. When I say I read them, this is what I mean. My favorite of all his books is The Fabric of the Cosmos. He is very good at turning complex ideas into simple terms and I find his writing style very elegant. Many ideas are from but his conversation with Ed Witten is what got me sealed the fate.
Eric Cornell
I learned about BCE from studying Eric Cornell’s work. I learned about this strange state of matter a few years after he won the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physics for creating the first Bose-Einstein condensate. It was his appearance that got me interested
It took 70 years of technological progress until Eric Cornell, Carl Wieman, and Wolfgang Ketterle successfully created the first true BEC in 1995 using a gas of rubidium and sodium atoms.
I remember thinking, how can laser used to cool things down?"
